10 - HT Dictionary 
The home theater scene is laced with a splendid combination of technical terms, acronyms and generally confusing jargon. Since I’ve had to hunt down the meaning to all these terms, I thought I would put them all together in one place and help ease the learning curve for any newcomers to this wonderful endeavor.
HDMI: High-Definition Multimedia Interface. Sounds good right, well it is. This is a pure digital connection capable of transmitting high-definition television signals as well as multi-channel (5.1) digital audio. As an added bonus (not really) it supports a built in copy protection standard known as HDCP.
HDCP: High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection. Developed by Intel to prevent the unauthorized duplication of copywritten material over a digital interface (DVI/HDMI/D-VHS)
DVI: Digital Visual Interface. A type of digital connection invented by Intel to connect computers and other digital devices to digital displays, such as flat-panel monitors and digital projectors.
