56 - DVRs still the choice over Media Center PCs
According to a new survey by In-Stat, many people (myself included) have PCs with Windows Media Center and TV Tuner cards installed, but still use a PVR to record their shows. I guess there’s something to be said for the ease of use and conveinance of consumer electronics. The way I look at it, I’m paying $10 a month for the functionality of a dual-tuner DVR, I might as well use it.
Along with TV recording, the survey also looked at home networking. Wireless seems to be the networking technology of choice, which is also not terribly suprising.
In summation:
- Consumers tend to use the easiest form of technology available to them
- Consumers would like there technology to do other things (IE home automation), but they aren’t doing them right now. Anybody want to guess why?
37 - NVIDIA DualTV MCE TV Tuner
Anandtech has a review information about this Nvidia add on card with dual-tuner goodness. It’s also Windows Media Center compatible, which is nice.
It looks like the perfect addition to any Media Center computer. Although I have a dual-tuner cable box, I’d like to move this functionality over to the computer for virtually unlimited storage. We’ll ignore the fact that at the moment I have about 20 hours of unwatched television on my DVR…
Two more things: No price listed and no HDTV support.
