Belkin introduces new HDMI switch

This new piece of gear from Belkin is a three to one HDMI switch, which would give me some future proofing for equipment I decide to add down the road.

Supports resolutions up to 1080p (so all of them, I guess) and it even comes with a 6 foot HDMI cable.

What’s all this gonna cost you? $200… later this Summer.

Comcast To Begin Testing HD TiVo?!

According to a thread on AVS forum, Comcast plans on beta testing their HD DVR with TiVo software next month! This could just be a rumor but it sounds legit since the Comcast TiVo deal has been in the open for quite some time now.—

I love my dual-tuner HD DVR, supplied from my cable company, but it would be ~~perfect~~ great if it had a better interface like TiVo. It would be perfect if it allowed me to transfer shows to my computer for storage (especially the big-ass HD documentaries I’m so fond of recording)…

HD-DVD Players Selling Fast

Personally, I think they need to release a few more titles that show off the true glory of HD a little better than Blazing Saddles. But apparently there’s enough out there to convince the early adopters that the time is now to move to HD-DVD, because the players are selling as fast as they can make them.

I’ll definately be on the lookout this holiday season for any good deals on one of these bad boys (god I hope I don’t have to stand in the rain at 5am… again). What do you think? Is it time to add an HD-DVD player to the compnent stack?

Of all the movies in the known universe, they choose these two to remake in HD.

Anyway, if you happen to own a HD-DVD drive, I guess you have two more titles to put in your library. Personally, I could listen to Blazing Saddles with no picture at all and would still laugh my ass off.

Console Wars Impact Future Media

For those of you wondering why I spend so much time talking about the next-gen consoles, it’s because a lot of our future media content will be dictated by who wins. Think I’m wrong? Here’s what a recent Slashdot post had to say on the matter:

“Reuters has a concise but interesting article up about how video games will help decide the format war between Blu-ray and HD DVD. According to industry analysts “What Sony and Microsoft decide to announce publicly or to dealers at E3 next week will be key.” So this year’s E3 could very well be a deciding factor in how you view your movie library for years to come.”

So who do you think is going to win? And does it matter?

Pioneer Selling Blu-Ray Drive

Well, somebody’s got to be first I guess. Pioneer is selling this internal Blu-Ray drive for your computer, “but what about media?” you say. No problem, TDK has got you covered, that’ll be $24.99 for a 25GB disc or $59.99 for a 50GB disc. CompUSA had 120GB hard drives on sale for $59.99, just for the sake of comparison.

The drive will write Blu-Ray at 2X speeds (anyone want to do the math on how long to write a full disc?), and also burn DVDs at 8X.

I’ll take two please…
