74 - Netflix says movie downloads by year’s end! 
The CEO doesn’t think movie downloads will be a big deal anytime soon, but they’re ramping up to begin web delivery this year. In the past they got shot down by the major studios, so perhaps they’ll start small with independent films.

Kutaragi’s desire to stratify the console market with Cell technology in effect wed Sony to the unpalatable prospect of charging an unprecedented price. Coupled with Sony’s desire to control that medium with their proprietary Blu-ray format, the final price was escalated by two very advanced (and very expensive) pieces of Sony technology.

72 - Wii + 360 is the Preferred Package 
Joystiq is running a poll with interesting results: at last count close to 50% of gamers will run with a Wii and a 360, and another 25% will go with just a Wii. The PS3 is taking a hammering it seems after E3. Is it price, functionality, delays, or all of the above?

“Xbox Live, the first and only unified online games and entertainment network, is now the world’s largest platform for high-definition on-demand content, surpassing 24 million downloads following the launch of Xbox 360 in the US on November 22, 2005. ” Can anybody say “WEBTV 2.0″?

68 - How Big Is Your Console? 
For all those size queens out there, here are the dimensions for all current consoles. The 360, PS3, Xbox, PS2, PS2 slim, GameCube, Wii and Mac Mini (?) all put in facetime. Conclusions? The waffle iron isn’t that big, and the Wii could fit in a large man’s pocket. Hit the jump for the measured machines.

67 - The DVD War Against Consumers 
The current crop of DVDs uses a copy protection scheme that encrypts the disk, but that scheme was broken several years ago and the hack was widely incorporated in innumerable freeware DVD decryption programs. The movie studios have vowed not to let that happen to them again.

66 - TV networks say “No!” to Remote Storage DVRs, Sue Instead! 
ABC, NBC, CBS, 20th Century Fox, Universal, Paramount and Disney joined together to request an injunction against Cablevision’s plans, filing in the US District Court in Manhattan. Concerns over copyright are being brought before a judge in a move that could once again subject innovation to the whims of the entertainment industry.
